Freudenberg Nonwovens is expanding its adsorptives business by investing in new equipment at its plant in Littleborough, UK, which started production three years ago. The company’s adsorptive materials have many applications for odour control, including medical and ostomy products. “Ostomy products considerably enhance the quality of life of stoma patients,” explains Dr Oliver Heneric, director Freudenberg’s activated carbon filter business segment. These materials are also used in chemical and biological personal protective equipment, air purification filters and odour control applications including footwear, pet products, household deodorization products and specialist performance clothing. Liquid purification for the removal of contaminants is a new market segment which is currently being developed. A new lamnination unit is currently being installed at the Littleborough site, one of three plants Freudenberg operates in the UK, the other two being located in Swindon and Halifax, with product ranges also for battery separators and hygiene applications. The Littleborough plant’s activities cover all stages in the production of activated carbon materials and filters – coating, laminating, conversion and finishing. “We are continually investing in the latest manufacturing technology and laboratory equipment to make sure that we are well-positioned for the future,” says Andrew Fisher, representing the adsorptives business in the UK. All Freudenberg adsorptive materials are subjected to thorough performance testing as part of ongoing research and development and during production, to surpass the most stringent of needs in diverse applications. |
