In addition to headline-hitting cabinet minister Baroness Warsi, Pierre Conrath, EDANA’s sustainability and public affairs director will be another keynote speaker at ‘The Dynamics of Progress’, the summer seminar being organised by the UK’s Nonwovens Network.

He will present the organisation’s latest developments and thinking on a life cycle approach to product design at the event, which takes place on Thursday July 12 at Cedar Court Hotel in Bradford, West Yorkshire.

EDANA is at the forefront of life cycle assessment techniques – assessing the environmental impact of products and processes to enable improved environmental performance at all stages of the production process.

In keeping with its work in promoting best practices throughout the value chain and across all nonwoven application areas, EDANA launched a new initiative to develop good sustainability practices (GSP) in January this year.

As far back as 1992 EDANA began publishing guidelines for environmentally sound nonwovens manufacture. As a follow-up to these Guidelines and numerous other initiatives subsequently undertaken, the GSP project will identify and share best practices throughout the value chain, enabling and encouraging all members of EDANA to implement changes and become more sustainable. It will also promote a better understanding and implementation of good sustainability practices and set a common reference point for all EDANA members.

The ambition of the latest project is to provide practical guidance to help companies improve their environmental, societal and economic sustainability. Another objective is to ensure that the industry is recognised for its efforts and long standing commitment towards sustainability. The deliverable to achieve these goals is an internet-based resource for EDANA members, containing a series of good practices.

The Dynamics of Progress seminar is open to all professionals involved in the nonwovens industry, with a concessionary rate given to members of the Nonwovens Network.
