‘The Dynamics of Progress’ is the title of the summer seminar being organised by the UK’s Nonwovens Network, with headline-hitting Muslim cabinet minister Baroness Warsi – known as the “Tory peer who never plays it safe” – confirmed as its keynote speaker. The event, to be held on Thursday July 12 at Cedar Court Hotel in Bradford, West Yorkshire, will bring together an interdisciplinary group of professionals to discuss issues affecting the future of the nonwovens industry. Among them will be EDANA’s sustainability and public affairs director Pierre Conrath, who will present the organisation’s latest developments and thinking on a life cycle approach to product design. EDANA is at the forefront of life cycle assessment techniques – assessing the environmental impact of products and processes to enable improved environmental performance at all stages of the production process. Alan Cottenden, an expert on incontinence technology at University College London, will present his findings on nonwoven skin contact, while Robert Smith, nonwovens new business and innovation director at Lenzing, will outline the benefits of sustainable cellulose fibres for nonwoven. In other papers the technology highlights from last year’s ITMA in Barcelona will be summarised and the benefits of powder coatings for industrial, automotive and architectural applications outlined. Recent work by the British Wool Marketing Board will also be presented, followed by an update on Desso’s carpet tile Take Back programme, which is fully operational across the UK. The Dynamics of Progress seminar is open to all professionals involved in the nonwovens industry, with a concessionary rate given to members of the Nonwovens Network.
