Following the first test launch for incontinence care by SCA in southern China with its Tena range in 2009, training for nurses in the use of such products has been carried out at hospitals in 12 Chinese cities, including Guangzhou, Shanghai and Nanjing.

The project is part of SCA’s ambition to establish a strong, long-term presence in China with its nonwoven-based incontinence ranges.

The company’s training teams are being invited by healthcare workers to take part in training programmes for family members with various affiliated hospitals. If this exercise is implemented throughout China, more than 200,000 nurses will be trained.

It is estimated that by 2050 there will be 438 million Chinese over 60 years old, equal to a third of the population – a greater share than in the US.

As China’s population ages, there is a growing need in the country for incontinence care, but it’s an issue that’s difficult to talk about.

Training nurses in incontinence allows the taboo topic to be handled more openly.
