Hemp insulation now fire safe Print
Thursday, 18 August 2011

Breathe natural fibre nonwoven insulation manufactured by UK company Hemp Technology has achieved a Euroclass E classification for reaction to fire, considerably extending its application potential.

Launched in 2010, Breathe is produced from UK grown hemp and flax and offers a renewable and low-carbon means of insulating lofts, walls and floors.

The product has a thermal conductivity of 0.039 W/mK, which boosts thermal comfort by reducing overheating in summer and damping internal temperature fluctuations.

The ability of Breathe insulation to resist settlement, means that the installed thickness, and consequently thermal performance is maintained.

It has immense breathability since hemp fibres can absorb and release moisture without damage or the loss of all important thermal performance.

This ‘breathability’ is increasingly recognised by construction professionals as being an extremely useful function for maintaining a healthy and durable building.

Hemp and flax are naturally durable cellulose fibres. so Breathe does not attract rodents and nor does it provide a food source for moths or other insects.

Breathe also locks-in carbon and can be disposed off easily at tend of its life. It is non-toxic and non-irritating
