Each year, Fiberfil Spa, based in Casnigo, in Bergamo, Italy, transforms approximately 150 million PET bottles into recycled polyester staple fibre for nonwovens and textiles.

After collection, the PET bottles are separated, selected by colour, washed, ground and transformed into flakes by the company.

Recycled fibre represents around 65% of Fiberfil’s current output, which will now be considerably boosted by the installation of a new fibre line supplied by fellow Italian firm Farè Spa.

The single step and compact, multiple-position line has an hourly throughput of approximately 2,000 kg and is configured to produce both fine denier staple fibre and heavier counts.

The highly energy efficient line is also equipped with a new continuous self-cleaning filtration system developed specifically by Farè for PET flakes. This is now available for retrofitting to existing polyester lines.
